  "description": "An ear candle is a hollow cone of muslin stiffened with beeswax. You lie on your side, the tapered end rests at the opening of the ear, and the other end is lit. It burns for about eight to ten minutes down to a marked line, and that is the whole of it.\n\nPeople have been doing this for a very long time, and the reason they keep doing it is the experience. Lying still, a little warmth at the side of your head, ten minutes where you are not doing anything else. That is what we sell it for.\n\nWhat it does not do is clean your ear. It is often said to create a gentle suction that draws wax out, but when that has been measured, no suction was found, and the residue left inside a burned cone turns out to be candle material rather than earwax. We would rather tell you that than have you buy it expecting something it will not do. If wax is the problem, the ear washer or the camera cleaner on this site will actually remove it, and a clinician will do it better still.\n\nThe risks are real, which is why the safety instructions are not decoration. Hot wax can burn the ear or the face, a cone burned past its marker can drop ash, and pushing the cone into the canal can damage it. Never do this alone. You need another adult to hold and watch the candle, and a bowl of water within reach to put it out.\n\nDo not use one at all if you have ear pain, discharge, grommets, a perforated eardrum or any hearing loss, and never on a child. Some medical professionals advise against ear candling altogether. That is a fair position and you should know it before you buy. If something is actually wrong with your ear, see someone about it rather than lighting a candle next to it.",
